UIC held its inauguration ceremonies on 30 August 2022, and over 2200 freshmen joined the ceremony onsite or online. This year, UIC cooperated with media, including Zhejiang TV, to broadcast live the momentous event on multiple platforms, and it was viewed by around 50,000 audience members.

President of UIC, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences Prof Tang Tao addressed the students with a warm welcome, and hoped they could utilise UIC's profound academic resources in the upcoming years with a studious attitude and passion for campus life, and embrace the diversity of interdisciplinary studies. Prof Tang mentioned that the "quality of student experience" is UIC's top priority. He concluded his speech with high expectations for the new students: "This is not a 9-to-5 university but a 24-hour residential university where learning is a complete experience."
UIC Provost Prof Chen Zhi shared his college study experience to motivate the freshmen to cherish their study opportunities, ponder on the directions of their journeys ahead, and enjoy every possibility at UIC to enrich their minds and life.

Prof Chen said: "At UIC, you are the author of your own life stories. Your future is full of possibilities." He also added that academic studies have never been easy at UIC, and UIC’s students must learn to study hard and "play hard".
Party Secretary of the College Party Committee and UIC Vice President (Administration) Prof Mao Yaqing shared some advice with students, hoping them to join various activities actively, live healthily, exercise regularly, and shoulder social responsibilities bravely.

Huang Zixin, a first-year student from the Division of Business and Management, received a full scholarship for freshmen admission. She was deeply impressed by UIC's liberal arts education. "In the four years of university before us, what we should do is to decide what kind of person we want to become and what kind of life we want to live for the rest of our lives. UIC will help us get there,"she said.
