Published on 30 May 2023

The Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China (MOE) announced the winners of the 2022 National Teaching Achievement Awards, and UIC teachers teamed up with Jilin University's teachers to win the second prize, marking the first time that UIC teachers brought home teaching awards at the national level.

Together with Jilin University, UIC President, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences Prof Tang Tao, and Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the Faculty of Science and Technology Prof Di Yana completed the project on reform and practice of first-class mathematics talent training model.

The project optimised the talent cultivation programme by constructing a training mode and designing multiple assessments. It also improved the teaching materials and faculty qualities by enhancing communication and integration among all related parties to suit social needs timely and addressed the lack of practice in the mathematics discipline.

In this project, Prof Tang presided over the reform and construction of the undergraduate courses "Numerical Methods for Differential Equations" and "Advanced Numerical Analysis", supporting the reform of the talent training model, the construction of theoretical teaching model, the dissemination of mathematical culture, and the improvement of students' quality.
