Global top 2% scientists' rankings released with 13 UIC scholars on

The world's top 2% scientists list for 2024, made by Stanford University and Elsevier, has been published with 13 UIC scholars included.

The research of the selected UIC scholars spans multiple fields, including numerical and computational mathematics, information systems, artificial intelligence and image processing, logistics and transportation, food science, statistics and probability, networking and telecommunications, sociology and industrial engineering and automation.

UIC Provost, Acting Associate Vice President (Internationalisation) Prof Patrick Chau stands out in the field of information systems, ranked among the top 50 globally in both sub-lists of career-long impact and single-year impact. Particularly, he is ranked first in the career-long impact category on the Chinese mainland.

This year, eight UIC scholars have been included in both the career-long impact and single-year impact sub-lists. They are: Chair Professor, Provost and Acting Associate Vice President (Internationalisation) Prof Patrick Chau; Chair Professor at the Institute of Advanced Study Prof Shan Xiaowen; Chair Professor of the Department of Computer Science Prof Wang Qing-Guo; Chair Professor and Director of the Institute for Advanced Study Prof Tang Tao; Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Life Sciences Prof Xu Baojun; Chair Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Prof Adolf K.Y. Ng; Chair Professor, Director of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Future Networks Prof Jia Weijia; and Associate Professor Dr Luo Zongwei of the Department of Computer Science.

Chair Professor with the Department of Statistics and Data Science and Director of the Institute of Statistics and Computational Intelligence Prof Fang Kaitai, and Chair Professor with the Faculty of Business and Management Prof Liu Wenbin have been selected in the sub-list of career-long impact.

Moreover, Chair Professor Sun Weiwei of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Dean of the School of Culture and Creativity, Prof Eugene Ch'ng, and Prof Christian Aspalter of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences have been included in the single-year impact sub-list.
