A delegation from the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province visited BNBU to assess the progress of the "1+1+1" joint funding scheme on 10 March 2025. This initiative, signed in May last year, marked a significant collaboration among the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, BNBU, and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).

Aiming to deepen tech cooperation in strategic areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, and interdisciplinary applications, the first batch of projects under the scheme has now passed review.

A meeting was held for the three parties for further communication. Deputy Director of the Department Liang Qinru affirmed the project selection methods of BNBU, stating that the advancement of the scheme will fully rely on universities and align with international research management systems. The Department will actively coordinate to ensure the smooth implementation of the scheme, contributing to the Greater Bay Area's integration into the global innovation network.

BNBU President Prof Chen Zhi stated that the two universities are currently focusing on strategic research areas. The approved projects align with national development strategies and technological needs. Academic researchers from both universities will collaborate to contribute to the scheme and development of the Greater Bay Area.

HKBU Vice President (Research and Development) Prof Lyu Aiping pointed out that the joint funding scheme will further deepen the research collaboration between HKBU and BNBU. It will not only accelerate the output of existing cooperative projects but also inspire numerous innovative research topics, exploring new models for tech cooperation.

BNBU Vice President (Research and Development) Prof Pan Jianxin provided a detailed overview of the first batch of projects under the "1+1+1" scheme. After a stringent review by the joint review committee of the two universities, a total of 15 projects were approved. The scheme has already demonstrated its effectiveness in attracting top overseas research talent.

The Director of the Zhuhai Technology and Innovation Department, Ms Huang Nanmeng, said that Zhuhai is exploring a research management mechanism that is aligned with international standards, encouraging universities to deepen their cooperation with enterprises.
