The Macao-Zhuhai Talent Development and Promotion Association was established in Macao on 12 May. Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Mr Ho Hau-wah; Deputy Director of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr Yao Jian; Secretary of CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee, Mr Guo Yonghang; Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao, Ao Ieong U; and other honour guests presented on the ceremony.

The ceremony
Macao-Zhuhai Talent Development and Promotion Association (the Association) will gather high-level professionals and graduates from overseas institutions for higher education institutions, research entities, professional groups, companies in Macao and Zhuhai for the coordinated development of talents in both cities. The Association focuses on Macao's solution for economic diversification and Zhuhai's construction of a modernised and internationalised special economic zone.
Ho Hau-wah was appointed as the permanent honorary president of the Association. Five academicians, Song Yonghua, Lee Hun Wei, Liu Liang, Chen Dake, and Zhang Xu, were appointed as honorary presidents. The Chairman of the Council of Macao University of Science and Technology (MUST), Liu Chak Wan, was appointed president. In addition, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and UIC's President, Prof Tang Tao, was appointed as co-president.

In his speech, Mr Guo Yonghang expressed his expectation of the Association to promote the Macao-Zhuhai talent development and promotion.

Ms Ao Ieong U said that Macao attaches importance to the establishment of the Association and cooperation on critical areas between the two cities.

The founding president of the Association, Mr Liu Chak Wan, said that the association would contribute to the economic and social development of the two cities to help raise the national profile.

President Tang mentioned in his speech that Macao and Zhuhai should cooperate on talent retainment, supporting higher education institutions to cultivate talents and conquering challenges in science and technology, and sharing innovative results. He also mentioned that more than 6,000 Macao-invested companies registered in Zhuhai, which have gathered a significant number of domestic and foreign talents. Besides, higher education institutions of Macao and Zhuhai has been promoted. Furthermore, in 2019, the Alliance for Technological Innovation and Talent Development in Western Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was jointly initiated by the University of Macao, UIC, and Wuyi University aims to build scientific and technological innovation and talent cultivation centre.

Prof Tang also presented UIC's strength of education. UIC strives to attract excellent talents from home and abroad. In 2020, UIC established the UIC Industrial-University Research Collaboration Centre in Zhuhai High-tech Zone, seeking to promote the development of enterprise industries with advantages of higher education institutions on scientific research.
UIC's first campus will focus on humanities and business, and a second campus on STEM and graduate school. In addition, the MUST's Graduate School in Zhuhai will be located next to UIC. Thus, the two institutions and the two cities will seize this opportunity and further their collaborations.

At the ceremony, the association signed agreements with enterprises and universities of Macao and Zhuhai for cooperation in the fields of health care, scientific research, talent management and development.
