Prof Dai Yongjiu, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Sun Yat-sen University, delivered an academic lecture at UIC on 19 November, explaining his study on the land surface simulation system.
As Prof Dai Yongjiu said, the land surface is the main site of human activities, resulting in land-air substance and energy exchange, regional climate changes, and eco-environmental changes. These changes have had a significant impact on nature and humans. The land is a critical component of the Earth system. In his presentation, Professor Dai introduced mathematical and physical modelling and computer simulations to describe these processes quantitatively and study the interaction between human activities and the environment.

Prof Dai has long been dedicated to studying land surface processes and numerical models and has made systematic and pioneering contributions to relevant filed. Its research results have been widely used in meteorology, hydrology, ecological environment and other fields.
Some other guests attended this event: Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Prof Chen Dake, UIC President Prof Tang Tao, UIC Vice President (Academic) Prof Huang Huaxiong, Dean of Division of Science and Technology (DST) Prof Pan Jianxin, and Associate Dean of DST Prof Sun Weiwei.
