Promoting wildlife conservation in Hengqin

On 27 November, the Urban Planning & Construction Bureau of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, UIC and the Zhuhai Bird-watching Society organised a promotional event on wildlife protection. The inauguration ceremony of the Biodiversity Research Centre of Hengqin was also held on the day.

Launching the Biodiversity Research Centre of Hengqin

The Biodiversity Research Centre of Hengqin was jointly initiated by UIC's Environmental Sciences Programme (ENVS) and Zhuhai Bird-watching Society. It plans to carry out biodiversity conservation through specific research programmes.

A round-table meeting on biodiversity in Hengqin was held on the day. Experts shared opinions revolving around environmental protection and biodiversity.

Dr Tsim Siu-tai, Programme Director of ENVS, Honorary President of Zhuhai Bird-watching Society, gave a talk on the importance of the biodiversity of birds.

Ms Li Fanghua, Senior Lecturer of WPEO-Environment and Development Centre and Vice President of the Zhuhai Bird-watching Society, gave a presentation on the bird-watching and ecological civilisation construction in Zhuhai.

Dr Tsim Siu-tai has been working on zoology botany and environmental protection research for 20 years. In November 2021, he received an award recognising his efforts in Wildlife and ecological protection in Guangdong Province.
