UIC signs cooperative deal with Southern Marine Laboratory

UIC inked a cooperation agreement with the Southern Marine Laboratory and held a meeting to discuss topics related to AI application in ocean study, the research and development of deep neural network algorithms embedded in physical information, and the research of ocean big data storage, computation and visualisation technology and more.

UIC Vice President (Research and Development) and Director of Guangdong Key Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence and Multi-Model Data Processing, Prof Jia Weijia said that UIC's international education has cultivated a vast amount of talents and gathered excellent faculty worldwide to support the development of teaching and technology, which will also benefit the Southern Marine Laboratory. He expected the two parties to collaborate on the needs for the progress of marine science in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the future.

The Southern Marine Laboratory is a provincial-level scientific research institution organised by the Zhuhai Government. Assistant to the Director of the Lab, Prof Yang Qinghua, said that the agreement aimed to improve the Lab's construction to the national level. He looked forward to mutually beneficial cooperation in industry, academia and research with UIC, contributing to developing the national marine science and technology power.

An academic meeting was held for further discussion, and UIC senior management and faculty, including UIC Academic Registrar Prof Li Jianhui and Chair Professor Wang Qing-Guo, and representatives of the Lab attended it.
