Prof Lionel Ni, Founding President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST (GZ)) gave a speech at UIC as a distinguished speaker on "Reimagine Education: Leveraging AI for a Flexible and Personalised Learning" on 28 August 2024.

During the lecture, Prof Ni introduced the basic concepts and principles of Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content (AIGC) and elaborated on its profound impact across various industries, especially its enormous potential in education, which can make it more flexible and personalised.

He also mentioned AIGC's current limitations and risks while projecting its future development. He encouraged the audience to adjust to the tide of AI critically, discover more possibilities, and take it as a tool to promote educational innovation and development.
A Q&A session was arranged, where Prof Ni answered questions raised by UIC's faculty and students on the application of AIGC in teaching and the opportunities that it will bring.

UIC President Prof Chen Zhi delivered the welcome address introducing Prof Ni's outstanding achievements, and emphasised that this lecture was a significant step forward for UIC in promoting educational technology innovation.

The presentation was part of UIC's Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL)'s series of thematic events titled "AI Empowers Education", aiming to better explore the practice and application of AI in teaching innovation, as the field of education is undergoing an unprecedented transformation that artificial intelligence rapidly advances, bringing opportunities and challenges while reshaping traditional teaching styles.
The lecture was moderated by the Director of CTL Dr Vivien Chan, and attracted approximately 300 staff members and students to attend.
