Professor William Littlewood, Honorary Professor at the Hong Kong Baptist University, spoke of task-based and task-supported language teaching at UIC to an audience from UIC and Zhuhai Zijing Middle School on 18 April.

Littlewood discussed a framework for theorising the language curriculum of five learning activities: non-communicative learning, pre-communicative language practice, communicative language practice, structured communication and authentic communication.

He said task-based and task-supported language teaching in this framework are not separate. Teachers can draw on them to develop an approach suitable to the teaching context.
