Faculty members receive awards from Zhuhai

Zhuhai held 2020 Teachers' Day Celebration and recognition conference on 8 September. Associate Vice President (Student Development) Prof Stella Cho received a Zhuhai Excellent Educator Award and Dr Jiang Wei, Associate Dean of the Division of Culture and Creativity (DCC) was awarded a Zhuhai Excellent Teacher Award.

The Secretary of the Municipal CPC Committee, Guo Yonghang, and the Mayor of Zhuhai, Yao Yisheng, attended the meeting and presented awards to the teachers and educators who were honoured.

Prof Stella Cho

Prof Stella Cho is a seasoned accounting academic. She earned her PhD degree from the University of Hong Kong. Prof Cho’s teaching and research interests are in taxation and corporate governance. She has 30 years of experience in teaching and research, management training and university administration in universities in Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong.

Prof Stella Cho

Between 2008 – 2020 academic years, she served as the first Dean of the Division of Business and Management, UIC. Prior to joining UIC, she taught at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University for years. She has rich experience in university management, teaching, research, and professional & public services, both in Hong Kong and the Mainland.

Prof Cho is renowned for her contribution in the accounting profession in both the HKSAR and the Mainland. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a fellow member of a number of professional accountancy bodies including HKICPA, ACCA, TIHK, HKSI, SCAA, just to name a few. Prof Cho has served the HKICPA as an elected Council Member for ten terms and the President of HKIAAT for three terms. She was elected as a member of the HKSAR Election Committee (Accountancy Sub-sector) for three terms. Prof Cho was appointed by the HKSAR Government to serve in many government committees, review panels, appeal boards. Currently, she is an appointed member of the Panel for Public Interest Entities Auditors Review Tribunal, and the Deposit Protection Appeals Tribunal. In 2016 and 2019, she was appointed as a member of the 1st and the 2nd Advisory Board of Accounting Standards for Business Enterprises, Ministry of Finance, P.R.C. respectively. In 2017, she was appointed as the Vice President of Accounting Society of Zhuhai. She was elected as a member of the 4th Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation in 2018, and the Deputy Director of its Accounting Profession Committee in 2019.

Prof Stella Cho says the greatest sense of accomplishment comes from participating in and witnessing the development of UIC and by the fact that UIC's innovative educational philosophy has nurtured a group of outstanding students.

 

Dr Jiang Wei

Dr Jiang Wei is currently Associate Dean of the Division of Culture and Creativity (DCC) of UIC and the Acting Programme Director of Master of Arts in Communication -- Film, TV & New Media Concentration. He came to UIC in 2012 to teach Cinema and Television Programme (CTV) and teaching has always been his passion. He has devoted a lot of time and energy and as a result, he received the President's Award for Teaching and Service for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Dr Jiang Wei

Dr Jiang was selected by China Film Foundation to be a visiting scholar at the School of Cinematic Arts, University of Southern California on the T. C. Wang Fellowship. Before he went to pursue his PhD study at the University of Macau, he had professional experience in the Chinese film industry, having worked as director’s assistant, assistant director, art department coordinator, and other positions for various film and TV productions, such as John Woo’s Red Cliff I & II, Mikael Hafstorm’s Shanghai, Jin Yimeng’s Sophie’s Revenge, and Jiang Wen’s Let the Bullets Fly.

In addition to his daily teaching and administrative work, Dr Jiang spends a lot of time tutoring students in their Final Year Projects (FYP) and the creation of other short films. Under his guidance, Lin Qinqin’s FYP “Oasis” and Lin Binghan’s Final Year Project “Endless” won awards at prestigious film festivals Transferred to CTV, Lin Qinqin received careful guidance from Dr Jiang Wei and was recommended to do her internship with the crew of “Guilty of Mind”. Lin Qinqin explained that the guidance from Dr Jiang benefits her for all life.

Dr Jiang explained that he found pleasure teaching at UIC, and being with young people gave him the motivation to keep improving. He says that students see things differently and he wants to reduce the generation gap so he is constantly updating himself with the latest knowledge.
