UIC gathered with staff members from Willamette University in Oregon, US on 29 October to talk about possible opportunities for collaboration.

Discussion about a possible collaboration
Distinguished guests from Willamette University included: Professor of Environmental Science Prof Karen B. Arabas; Dempsey Endowed Chair of Environmental Policy and Politics and professor of Environmental Science Prof Joe Bowersox; Associate Professor of History Prof Cecily McCaffrey; and Associate Professor of Chinese and Civic Communication and media Prof Huike Wen.
UIC Participants included: Vice President (Academic Affairs) Prof Chen Zhi; Associate Vice President Prof George Wei; Associate Dean of DHSS Prof Simon Zhao; Associate Dean DHSS and Programme Director for ELLS Dr Charles Lowe; Acting Dean of DCC Dr Jiang Wei; Director of WPEO & Professor of Computer Science and Technology Prof Guo Haipeng; Director of IDO Dr Katharina Yu; Associate Director IDO and Acting Director CDO Ms Li Mei; as well as Acting Director ACE Ms Isabella Li.

The meeting started with a presentation about UIC given by Dr Yu. It continued with a presentation from Prof Bowersox who introduced Willamette University. The discussed in detail Whole Person Education activities and Environmental Science programmes at each university respectively. Both universities are interested in exploring semester-long and summer programmes. To end the meeting Prof Chen Zhi took part in a souvenir exchange with members of Willamette University.

After the meeting, the guests continued by having a tour of the Environmental Science Programme given by PD of Environmental Science, Dr Tsim Siu-Tai. After the tour, they continued the discussion about the possibility for collaboration with environmental science summer programmes.
