The 8th 24 Frames & Creative Media Festival was launched at UIC on 7 May, with well-known directors, producers in the film and television industries invited to the site, and university students from home and abroad.

More than 400 works were collected from university students worldwide, including that from Beijing Film Academy, Communication University of China, Taipei National University of Arts, American Film Institute (AFI), Ringling College of Art and Design. In addition, filmmakers from the industry were invited for final scoring of the entry work as judges, including well-known film director from the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, Yang Chao; film producer, Yang Jing; director and screenwriter, Zhang Tianhui; as well as screenwriter and film director, Zhou Zhou.
Totally ten awards were issued, including the Best Script Award, Best Director Award, and Best Feature Film Award. 'Gold Fortune (永久居留)', directed by Lv Shiyu from AFI, won the Best Feature Film Award. Duan Yunchong of Beijing Film Academy won the Best Director Award for his film 'Boring Life (狗叫了一天)'.
UIC Vice President (Administration), Prof Mao Yaqing, said at the ceremony that the festival integrates different media platforms with the film industry. Also, the festival allows students to communicate and exchange ideas with experienced filmmakers. In addition, UIC will provide more practice opportunities for students.

The festival also launched a 24-hour challenge session. Candidates from different universities had to make a 3 to 5-minute short film within 24 hours. With the theme of 'Line', divided into four groups, candidates completed their creative works with the guidance of their tutors. The Best Creative Film was selected in this session.

Yuan Yuan sharing ideas
During the salon lecture on 8 May, many well-known and professional practitioners in the film and television industries, such as famous scriptwriter Yuan Yuan, independent producer Jiang Nengjie, as well as the judges, Yang Chao, Yang Jing, Zhang Tianhui, and Zhou Zhou, shared and exchanged ideas with participating students on site.

From 7 May to 16 May, productions of the Final Year Project of senior students from the UIC CTV programme are screened offline and online. In addition, students' scripts and dissertation were presented offline.

Also presented at the event were Chairman of Zhuhai film and television artists association, Zhang Xuemei; Vice-Chairman of Zhuhai film association, Liu Lin; Vice President of Seasun Games of Kingsoft Co., Ltd., executive of Seasun cultural and tourism business, Gong Daojun; Executive member of and part-time president of Guangzhou Photographers Association, Zou Zixuan; television director of Guangdong Radio and Television Station, Hu Jiaqi; initiator of Guangdong middle school students film festival, Tan Yi; UIC Associate Vice President (Student Development), Prof Stella Cho; Academic Registrar, Prof Li Jianhui; Managing Director for Finance and Administration, Nelson Chan; Associate Dean of Division of Culture and Creativity, Dr Jiang Wei; and Acting Programme Director of CTV, Dominic Man.
