Fang Yuan is a student in the Accounting programme at UIC. She now is admitted to the MSc Accounting and Finance at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The four-year study at UIC has injected enough knowledge and skills into her to face challenges in her studies or life, and the following are the stories of her pains and gains.

One of the most impressive features of studying at UIC, according to Fang Yuan, is its professional and international educational resources.
"UIC's teachers are very knowledgeable," said Yuan, "and they are capable of making complex concepts approachable and digestible with vivid examples, lowering learning barriers for students."
Besides studying on campus, she had participated in UIC's summer programme in Canada at the University of Victoria. Experiencing different teaching styles and foreign cultures broadened her view and deepened her understanding and love for Chinese culture.

Another unique feature of growing at UIC, for Yuan, is its liberal arts education.
Thanks to the College's curriculum, Yuan could choose interdisciplinary courses like painting and social work, in which she learned about traditional Chinese art and walked into the real life of people with disability through volunteer activities.
Through the courses, Yuan has realised the importance of taking social responsibility and how to better communicate with people more empathetically.
Yuan was encouraged to learn by practice at UIC as well, and the result turned out well.
At school, she took part in competitions and campaigns, and was awarded the National Scholarship, the First Class Award, the Second Class Award, the Mr Fung Sun Kwan Scholarship of Excellence and more.

During her four years at college, she also interned in various business companies, such as trust companies, securities firms, accounting firms, etc. In 2021, she worked as an audit intern at UOB, one of China's top eight accounting firms.
Looking back, Yuan recommended the undergraduates set foot in as many fields as possible to find out where their passion is.
When talking about her future, Yuan said that she planned to pursue a PhD after completing her Master's degree and be a university teacher to light up paths for students.
After spending four years at UIC, Fang Yuan has mustered up enough strength and courage to deal with the upcoming challenges in studies and life. She will bring what she has learned and mastered to the next level of her excellence.
