UIC held a ceremony to present awards to student winners from the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) 2022 and the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) 2021.
A total of 29 teams of UIC students won awards in MCM, including one Finalist (From the Statistics programme: Zheng Yaxin, Du Jinqiu, Gao Qihang), seven Meritorious Winners and 21 Honorable Mentions, creating a record number of awards.

MCM is an international contest for high school students and college undergraduates, sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and three other influential mathematical organisations, attracting students and faculty advisors from over 900 institutions around the world.

As for the CUMCM, a total of 75 teams from UIC won 76 awards, including one National Second Prize, three Guangdong Provincial First Prizes, ten Guangdong Provincial Second Prizes, 26 Guangdong Provincial Third Prizes, and 36 Recognition Awards.

CUMCM is organised by the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIAM), partnered with Higher Education Press, China (HEP) and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). In 2021, around 50,000 teams from China, the United States, Malaysia and other countries signed up for the competition.
The awarded representatives shared their experiences with the audience. They said that teamwork, research topic, expert knowledge and correctness were the key factors in the race.
