Happy Teachers' Day! UIC awards staff for achievements

UIC held the 2024 President's Awards and Long Service Awards Presentation Ceremony in honour of Teachers' Day. This event celebrated nine faculty members who made outstanding contributions to teaching, research, and service during the 2023-2024 academic year with President's Awards, while acknowledging 73 staff members with Long Service Awards.

During the ceremony, UIC President Prof Chen Zhi expressed his gratitude to all dedicated staff members. As UIC approaches the milestone of its 20th anniversary, he looked forward to moving ahead together to meet new challenges and opportunities in pursuit of becoming a world-class liberal arts university.

Below are some shining moments of the award winners for the President's Awards this year.


Teaching, Luo Bei

Associate Professor of the Faculty of Business and Management

During her ten years of teaching, Dr Luo Bei always upholds the motto "In knowledge and in deeds". Continually striving for excellence, she actively refines her teaching approach based on student feedback. By integrating real-world scenarios through role-play and case studies, she encourages students to apply their learning to social issues. Committed to continuous improvement, Dr Luo is dedicated to advancing alongside her students in this educational journey.


Teaching, Peng Xiaoling

Associate Professor of the Faculty of Science and Technology

Teaching more than 15 courses for 17 years, Dr Peng Xiaoling has grown from a novice to an experienced teacher. She has nurtured classes of students with great gentleness, warmness and patience unwaveringly, while optimising her teaching methods and accumulating multiple achievements in scientific research. Her dedication is truly reflected in her commitment to education and cultivating the talents of tomorrow.


Research - Established researcher, Adolf Ng

Dean of Faculty of Business and Management

In Prof Ng's view, maintaining a good balance between work and life is crucial for research, because the ability to develop and implement new ideas is key to producing high-quality research, and these ideas are often born in leisure time. Scientific research also requires enduring passion. For him, the satisfaction of proving that "I can make a difference" brought by it is part of his passion, with the hope of contributing to society and the economy through his work.


Research - Young researcher, Wang Xi

Assistant Professor of the School of Culture and Creativity

Dr Wang Xi's curiosity for the unknown is his driving force for research and innovation. The allure of the cultural tourism industry has made him fully engage in it, and the satisfaction derived from solving problems in scientific research continually inspires him to explore further. Being immersed in a research environment allows him to keep pace with the tides and stimulates his enthusiasm for scientific exploration.


Service – Academic, Xuanyuan Zhe

Acting Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology

Bearing the notion of "Grow with UIC", Prof Xuanyuan Zhe consistently prioritises UIC's development and needs. He relentlessly pursues excellence in teaching, service, and research, including the establishment of a Data Science Programme, design and teaching the Guangdong Province's top-tier undergraduate course on Machine Learning, and participation in the application and construction of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Interdisciplinary Research and Application for Data Science.


Service – Academic, Jonathan James Corbett

Acting Head of the English Language Centre

Mr Jonathan Corbett is always committed to creating an inclusive and encouraging English learning environment, where students can interact and express themselves creatively without fear of making mistakes. He hopes to make students feel respected and valued, and encourages them to grow into English learners that are independent, active, and confident, who will shine not only in the classroom, but in the world.


Service – Admin, Wu Sufen

Assistant Director of the Admission Office

Working hard each admission season, Ms Wu Sufen and her team assist in formulating enrolment strategies, providing professional consultation and answering queries for prospective students. Their commitment ensures high-quality services, meets UIC's enrolment targets, and supports new students' growth here.


Service – Admin, Liu Yi

Acting Assistant Director of the President and College Office

Since joining in September 2007, Ms Liu Yi has been with UIC for 17 years. Throughout these years, she has completed every task with enthusiasm and responsibility, continuously refining her skills through lessons learned. Her unwavering dedication contributes to the development of UIC.


Party Affairs, Xu Baohua

Associate Director of the Estates Management Office

Safety is about "doing the real things."  Mr Xu Baohua escorted UIC's development and growth for more than a decade, shouldering the responsibility and duty to protect the safety of all students, faculty and staff.


Long Service Award

UIC faculty and staff also performed on the stage during the ceremony.
