AI meets e-commerce! ICEB 2024 at UIC

The 24th International Conference on Electronic Business (ICEB 2024) made a hit at UIC. From 24 to 28 October 2024, nearly 200 experts, scholars, and students from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and beyond gathered here. Themed "AI-Generated Content and Human-AI Collaboration", the conference brought new inspiration in developing e-commerce through AI innovation, marking a significant step in e-commerce management.

Driving global collaboration and innovation

During the opening ceremony, esteemed professors each delivered remarks, including ICEB Honorary President Prof Lee Yiu-Ran (Eldon Y Li); UIC Provost and ICEB 2024 Co-Chair Prof Patrick Chau; ICEB 2024 Co-Chair, Chair of the Hong Kong Association for Information Systems, and Chair Professor in Information Systems and Digital Innovation Management at Hong Kong Baptist University Prof Cheung Mei Kwan (Christy M K Cheung); and ICEB Honorary Chair and Dean of UIC Faculty of Business and Management (FBM) Prof Adolf Ng.

Prof Lee celebrated ICEB's history, emphasising the importance of cross-border academic collaboration. Prof Chau highlighted ICEB's role as a key academic platform and underscored UIC's dedication to cultivating global talent with cross-cultural understanding. Prof Cheung underscored the value of interdisciplinary cooperation for the growth of e-commerce, while Prof Ng encouraged participants to seize collaborative opportunities at the conference.

Insights on e-commerce and AI from leading scholars

The conference featured keynote presentations from distinguished speakers, including Prof Atreyi Kankanhalli of the National University of Singapore, Prof Chen Guoqing of Tsinghua University, Prof Carol Hsu of the University of Sydney, and Huawei Cloud's Chief Talent Development Officer Ms Niu Jing. Topics ranged from the management of digital distractions, data governance challenges in AI, security implications of generative AI, to the role of interdisciplinary skills in the age of globalisation.

Event Highlights

ICEB 2024 provided a vibrant platform for exchanging research insights, fostering partnerships, and advancing academic development in e-commerce. With over 100 submissions covering AI applications, big data, blockchain, and cross-border e-commerce, this year’s conference set the stage for future innovations and collaboration in the e-commerce landscape.
