Six new partners! UIC’s global network expands

UIC has recently established cooperative relationships with six universities, expanding its international network and partnerships in the US, Morocco, India, Jordan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan, providing students home and abroad with more options and opportunities for intercultural study.

UIC is dedicated to promoting intercultural communication and providing an international learning environment for its students, in which its scholars have played a crucial role. For instance, in establishing these new partnerships, the New Uzbekistan University was introduced by UIC Vice President (Academic) and Executive Director of Institute for Advanced Study Prof Zhou Yongming, and Woxsen University by UIC Vice President (Research and Development) Prof Pan Jianxin, who met at the THE World Academic Summit.

Commenting on recent progress, Dr Katharina Yu, Director of UIC's International Development Office, stressed the importance of these partnerships in enhancing the learning experience for students not only in developed markets, but also in emerging markets where opportunities may be greater. "There is a clear trend that there are a lot of rising institutions in regions like Central Asia," said Dr Yu. "We want to broaden the portfolio and give our students insights into long and old cultural traditions, create learning opportunities, and let them know about the parts of the world." In the past year, UIC has participated in several outreach trips and education fairs and has maintained regular contact with overseas institutions to explore potential global collaborative opportunities.

Moreover, with the new collaborative agreements, UIC anticipates attracting more international students. In the future, Dr Yu said UIC looks forward to more international students joining the community and taking it as the first step to exploring China and experiencing its traditional Chinese arts and culture through its liberal arts education.

As UIC continues to expand its international horizons, it remains committed to fostering a diverse and interconnected academic community. Today, it maintains more than 70 collaborative relationships across 20 countries on several continents, featuring notable institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, the University of Toronto, and the University of Edinburgh. UIC is committed to further enhancing the intercultural study options and opportunities available to its students.

American University, Washington (MoA)

UIC is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Association (MoA) with American University, Washington, creating a partnership aimed at fostering global collaboration, research, and experiential learning.

In the vibrant residential neighborhood in Northwest Washington D.C, American University spans across 90 acres offering a balance of traditional college life and the vibrant offerings provided by the nation's capital.

American University comprises of eight schools and colleges, including the College of Arts and Sciences, Kogod School of Business, School of Communication, School of Education, School of International Service, School of Public Affairs, Washington College of Law, and School of Professional and Extended Studies.

The university ranked 91st out of 436 national universities in the U.S. News & World Report 2025. AU also placed 23rd in undergraduate research and creative projects, 38th among the most innovative schools, and 4th in study abroad programmes.

This partnership provides an array of benefits such as providing students from both institutions the opportunity for cross-cultural exchange, the ability to conduct joint academic programmes, and collaborations on levels of academia, research, and student exchanges. By connecting with a globally diverse student body representing over 100 countries, UIC students will have the unique opportunity to broaden their academic and cultural horizons through AU's expertise in education, public affairs, and research.

Al Akhawayn University Morocco (MoU & Exchange)

UIC is proud to announce the signing of an MoU and an exchange agreement with Al Akhawayn University (AUI) in Morocco, marking an exciting new chapter in fostering academic collaboration.

Established in 1993 and located in the scenic city of Ifrane, Al Akhawayn University welcomed its first students in January 1995. Today, it has approximately 2,200 students from diverse international backgrounds and is recognised as one of the top universities in Morocco, ranking 10th in Africa and 44th in the Middle East and North Africa(MENA)region.

The university is located in Ifrane, renowned for its pristine environment is ranked the second cleanest city in the world and offers a Mediterranean climate, fresh mountain air, and cedar forests.

AUI's commitment to academic excellence can be highlighted with its accreditation by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), a prestigious institution that ensures its degrees are equivalent to those issued in the United States. The university's mission, grounded in the principles of diversity, international outlook, and human solidarity, focuses on nurturing future global leaders through its liberal arts curriculum, delivered in English and modeled on the American education system. Their undergraduate studies offer programmes in three schools: the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Business Administration Programme, and the School of Science and Engineering.

Woxsen University, India (MoU & Exchange)

UIC is excited to announce a new partnership with Woxsen University, India, following the signing of an MoU and an exchange collaboration. This agreement underscores UIC's commitment to fostering global academic ties and enhancing opportunities for student and faculty engagement.

Established in 2014, Woxsen University is a pioneering private institution in India, located on a sprawling 200-acre residential campus in Hyderabad. Renowned for its cutting-edge infrastructure and forward-thinking educational programmes, Woxsen empowers students with a global mindset and prepares them for the challenges of the future.

Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, serves as the perfect backdrop for Woxsen University. It is one of India's most developed cities, home to a thriving Information Technology (IT) hub and a rapidly emerging Bio-Technology sector. Al-Ahliyya Amman University, Jordan (MoU)

UIC and Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU), Jordan, have signed an MoU to establish a transformative partnership focused on advancing academic collaboration, fostering cross-cultural exchange, and addressing global challenges through interdisciplinary research.

The MoU highlights the shared mission of both universities to promote excellence in education, innovation, and student development, reaffirming their dedication to provide students with the skills needed for the outside world.

As Jordan's first private university, established in 1990, Al-Ahliyya Amman University is a pioneer in higher education, ranked first among private universities in Jordan and third overall in the country. With a QS University Ranking of 51-60 in the Arab region, AAU offers a wide array of 40 undergraduate and 20 graduate programmes across its 15 faculties, including Information Technology, Nursing, Architecture and Design, Business, and Pharmacy. Known for its diverse student body 56% of who are international and its strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, AAU stands as a leader in fostering innovation and addressing global issues.

Guided by its mission to provide quality academic programmes accredited locally and internationally and leveraging the latest teaching and learning methodologies, AAU prepares its graduates to lead and compete on a global scale. Istanbul Aydin University, Turkey (Exchange agreement and General MoU)

UIC is pleased to announce the signing of an MoU and an exchange agreement with Istanbul Aydin University (IAU), Turkey. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to fostering academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and global competence, aligning with both institutions' visions of equipping students for success in a dynamic and interconnected world.

Situated in the heart of Istanbul, IAU combines the vibrancy of city life with the innovation of a modern university campus, embodying its slogan, "Towards a Bright Future." Renowned as one of Turkey's youngest and most dynamic institutions, IAU is committed to achieving global recognition and excellence.

As a hub of diversity, IAU is home to 6,000 international students from 102 countries, highlighting the university's commitment to diversity and cross-cultural exchanges. It offers a comprehensive range of 70 bachelor's degree programmes through 14 faculties, including Architecture and Design, Arts and Sciences, Communication, Dentistry, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Education, Law, Engineering, Fine Arts, Health Sciences, Medicine, Applied Sciences, Foreign Languages, and Sport Science.

IAU highlights its holistic educational approach with 92 active student clubs, encouraging students to engage in extracurricular activities that enhance their personal and professional growth beyond classroom learning.

New Uzbekistan University (MoU & Exchange)

UIC has signed an MoU and exchange agreement with New Uzbekistan University (NewUU). As Uzbekistan's first comprehensive research university, these agreements form a strategic partnership aimed at advancing academic collaboration, fostering innovation, and promoting global engagement.

Located in the heart of Central Asia in the capital city of Tashkent, NewUU was founded in 2021. The university represents 38 countries and offers a diverse range of programmes, including nine undergraduate degrees across its Schools of Computing, Engineering, Humanities, and Natural & Social Sciences. NewUU integrates research and education, aligning with its mission to develop future leaders and innovators for both local and global economies.

Student life at NewUU is vibrant, featuring regular cultural festivals, guest lectures, and workshops that enrich the campus experience. With over 32 clubs in intellectual, entertainment, sports, and educational categories, campus life at NewUU is described as dynamic.

As part of the international community, NewUU offers many opportunities for involvement in global initiatives. The university is rapidly gaining recognition for its excellence, producing highly skilled graduates who are readily equipped for the local and international job markets.
