UIC is offering a new postgraduate degree in Master of Science in Data Science. This one-year taught master's programme will commence in September 2019 with the aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills in data analytics and sciences.
Students that have passed the one-year full-time teaching mode and meet the graduation requirements will be awarded a Master's degree certificate from Hong Kong Baptist University.
Possible career paths include data scientist in public and private sectors, data analyst in businesses or government institutions, data mining engineer, data product manager, database administrator, and data consultant or strategist.

Compared with the postgraduate education of most universities in China, UIC's taught Master's degree education has a more flexible enrollment mode and shorter duration of study plus they use English as the medium. Applicants do not need to participate in the national postgraduate admission examination, but should hold a Bachelor's degree certificate or equivalent certificate with a certain level of English.
There is no graduation project or thesis requirement for the MSc Programme in Data Science. Nevertheless, students may take the elective course ‘Artificial Intelligence Project’ to conduct research in AI related projects. Participants in this elective course will engage in highly independent problem solving exercises under the supervision of a faculty member or one of UIC’s industrial partners.
Dean of the Division of Science and Technology (DST) Prof Stephen Chung says, “Data science and artificial intelligence are leading a new round of technological revolution”. He also mentions the demand for data and artificial intelligence scientists are increasing.
While it is suggested that students should normally possess a bachelor degree in science, engineering, business, or any other related fields, student may still be accepted into the MSc in Data Science on the condition that they complete remedial courses to prepare them.
UIC launched the Graduate School on 9 December 2017, given official approval from the Ministry of Education of China to offer postgraduate education through both research postgraduate and taught postgraduate programmes.
