In high school, he was a student in art and had great enthusiasm. After he went to college, he kept on learning Mathematics — he was enthusiastic about all courses related to Mathematics, including those online as well as those available during summer programmes.

He won many prizes in Mathematical modeling, which is the result of continuous exploration, during which he overcame difficulties and never gave up.

Huang Jian chose to further his studies by studying for a master’s degree in Financial Mathematics at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His final year project is published in the Journal of Risk and Financial Management, a journal indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI).

He is one of the very few Finance students who chose a completely different professional field after graduation, because he agrees with what his supervisor, Dr Chai Junyi said, “career planning is a lifelong business.”

When asked about the difference between UIC and other top universities in China, Huang Jian would introduce UIC by saying that it is a liberal arts college centring on the full development of students with state-of-the-art facilities and professional faculty members from around the world.

He believes that UIC’s liberal arts education provided him with vast amounts of knowledge so that he had the opportunity to develop his own interests, and learned how to work in teams and handle adversities.
