Over three hundred alumni returned to UIC and gathered with their teachers to celebrate UIC’s Homecoming Day on 27 April.

At the Welcome Gathering, UIC President Professor Tang Tao awarded commemorative medals to the first batch of graduates in celebration of their 10th anniversary of graduation. Alumni who have contributed to UIC’s donation projects such as the Alumni Wall, the Alumni Woods and more, were also awarded certificates by President Tang; Vice President (Academic Affairs), Professor Chen Zhi; Vice President, Professor Zhang Cong; Associate Vice President, Prof George Wei; as well as Deans and faculty members from each Division. President of Hong Kong Baptist University Alumni Association, Mr Alex Leung; as well as the former President, Mr Tyrone Siu, were also welcomed at the gathering.

In his speech, President Tang said that the core of liberal arts education is to cultivate talents with a global view while understanding Chinese culture, and UIC looks forward to strengthening cooperation with alumni.

President of UIC Alumni Association, Mr Xie Che, said UIC has overcome difficulties for today’s development, and will surely improve. Alumni will continue to support and help the development of UIC.

To encourage current students to take on more social responsibilities, alumni company Beeplus established a scholarship, to recognise three students every year who have achieved an outstanding performance in public welfare practice, community practice and business practice.

Alumni and President Tang also unveiled the Alumni Wall as well as the Alumni Woods, after which there was a music performance by alumni, current students and UIC faculty members, and a music festival presented by 10 bands was held in the evening.

Alumni met with Professor Tang to share with him recent information and activities. A Council Meeting was also held in the afternoon to discuss development of UIC Alumni Association.

Many alumni got the chance to meet and talk with their former teachers, and even play in various friendly sports matches with their old friends.

The music festival in the evening
Returning to alma mater, 2018 Accounting graduate, as well as the only female participant in the basketball match that was held in the afternoon, Chen Tianlun, said she missed the old days when she practiced basketball with her team members at UIC for competitions, and she thought that current students are lucky to have brand new facilities in the Sports Complex.
One of the host of Welcome Gathering and the Unveiling Ceremony, a 2016 graduate from International Journalism Programme, Shi Shaofeng, said UIC taught him to be a critical thinker, and he was proud of UIC. After graduation and two years of working, he went to the University of Exeter to obtain a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, and is currently working in Air China.

Huang Lanqing, a 2017 graduate from Applied Translation Studies Programme, received a certificate from President Tang for her sponsorship, saying that four years at UIC, she improved her self-learning, teamwork and other important skills for her career development. After graduation from UIC, she furthered her study in Hong Kong Baptist University, and started a business.
