The Dean of the Division of Culture and Creativity at UIC, as well as a Chartered Chemist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Prof Brian Clarke was the honoured speaker at the High Table Dinner on 14 November.

Prof Clarke spoke about his research career, as well as his understanding of the science behind it. He believes the younger generations should enrich their knowledge of science to boost their creativity. He talked about the general relationship of space and time, Einstein’s absolute and relativism theory, as well as the mathematics of day-to-day life.

Whilst displaying a short video clip about the discovery of the history of science and space, Prof Clarke gave some possible explanations about the history of the universe.

“The short video should give you guys a chance to think about the tiny world around us.” He also emphasised the importance of the human being’s consciousness which students should reflect on.
In addition, Prof Clarke also encouraged the students to join the scientific debate around some of the most controversial topics, for he believes that most of the great scientific theories originated from debate and controversy.
The speech ended with a piano and violin duet performed by Ma Qianqi and Ou Yuzhen, and then the dinner began. The night ended with a toast.
