The Chinese Language and Culture Centre (CLC) hosted a National Education on Chinese Culture and Society lecture titled ‘Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Construction of the International Science and Technology Innovation Centre: Opportunities and Challenges’ on 10 October.
Prof Ng Ching-Fai presents a souvenir to Prof Li Lu
The distinguished speakers were Director General of the Education and Science and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR, Prof Li Lu, as well as UIC President Prof Ng Ching-Fai.
Prof Li Lu mentioned that the Greater Bay Area meets the China's regional development strategy, which can be a new impetus for China's overall transformation and development and a new gateway to open up to the outside world.
Prof Li emphasised talents, innovation power and policies are key to its development, praising UIC's food safety and big data projects.
He further drew a vision of building a collaborative innovation system in the Greater Bay Area and establishing a hub for international creative talents.
Prof Ng was the next speaker; he highlighted that as the first cooperation between universities from mainland China and Hong Kong, UIC has set its root in Zhuhai and embraces the opportunities brought by the Greater Bay Area.
He explained that UIC has collaborated with the Zhuhai government in many fields including social work, the cultural creative industry, food safety testing, big data, and training for English teachers.
Prof Ng added that UIC is building a university town with the Huitong Village and striving to develop talents with both a Chinese root and an international perspective.
