The New Students’ Welcoming Party, themed as ‘Flipped’, was held by the Student Affairs Office (SAO) and the Executive Committee of the Student Union on 12 September. The event provided freshmen with diverse performances as well as entertainment and joy in UIC’s University Hall.

The Welcoming Party started at 7pm, with the President of UIC Prof Ng Ching-Fai wishing the new students a warm welcome in his opening speech. He went on to highlight the significance of the activity, appreciating the efforts of staff and students to help stage the event.

Prof Ng also encouraged the students to actively participate in various school events to enrich their UIC experience over the next four years. He then issued certificates to student volunteers who helped freshmen register and move into UIC.
Shortly after Prof Ng finished his opening address, the performances began, with songs performed by the iMusic band. There were various performances from different student interest clubs and groups such as: the UIC Crew, UIC Taekwondo Club, UIC A Capella Club, UIC Cheerleading Squad and the UIC Inspiration Dance Club.

Chen Qingyue, a junior student from the Accounting Programme, alongside Mr Jiao Jian, junior lecturer from the Whole Person Education Office (WPEO), performed a hit rap song for the students.

The freshmen were also involved, with year one Applied Economics student Zhang Bowen performing a violin solo, which impressed the captivated audience.

Huang Wenjun, a freshman from the Broad-Based Admission in Journalism and Communication Programme, was impressed, “This big event totally exceeded my expectation”. She hopes to take part in the event herself in next year’s Welcoming Party.
The night ended on a high note, as new students from the Environmental Science programme sang ‘The brightest star in the night sky’, a fitting end to UIC’s New Student’s Welcoming Party.
