External advisors consult DCC

On 26 June, the Division of Culture and Creativity (DCC) held an Advisory Committee meeting to keep versed in the development of the Division and also to give advice on future improvements.

The Advisory Committee consisted of experts, academics, and business leaders from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan in the relevant fields to DCC’s programmes.

The meeting discussed various topics, including the admission plan, labs and studios, artistic environment for creation, allocation of teaching and learning resources, and more. It is expected that DCC is going to offer Tourism and Event Management as a new minor programme in 2018-2019 academic year.

The Chairperson of the DCC Advisory Committee was renowned conductor and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University, Prof Johnny Poon. Members included member of the Film Development Fund and Creativity Fund Committee in Hong Kong, Professor Pak Tong Cheuk; Professor of Shin Chien University as well as founder of the Research Institute for Media, Technology and Creative Industries in Taiwan, Prof Tain-Dow Lee; Convention and Exhibition Consultant at Guangzhou Vanke Real Estate Co., Ltd, Mr Louis Cheng; and Resident Composer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Mr Cheuk-yin Ng.

Associate Vice President and Acting Dean of DCC, Prof Lilian Kwan, greeted the advisors before UIC President, Prof Ng Ching-Fai, gave opening remarks. Acting Assistant Dean of DCC, Dr Jiang Wei, then kept the meeting participants updated of the DCC’s status quo and plans for development.

The Committee members learnt deep about every programme of DCC by listening to reports presented by Programme Director of Cinema and Television, Prof Evelyn Mai; Programme Director of Culture, Creativity and Management, Dr Purrie Ng; Acting Programme Director of Media Arts and Design, Mr Andy Tam; in addition to Programme Director of Musical Arts, Dr David Walters.
