On 27 April, in CC-126, Whole Personal Education Office (WPEO) welcomed Assistant Professor and the Director of the International Development Office (IDO), Dr Katharina Yu, to present a lecture on 'Learning to Fly? Yoga!’. Dr Yu studied Indology, Sinology and Indo-European linguistics in University Munster and earned a PhD of Indology and Sinology in the University of Munich.

This lecture attracted many students and UIC faculty members. At the beginning of the lecture, Dr Yu briefly introduced Yoga and its rich history as the treasure of Indian civilization. She mentioned and explained that what we know on Yoga is based on text. “Yoga comes from the word yoke, which means to join” explained Ms Yu. After that, she gave a deep analysis on contents and concepts of ‘The Interpretation of Dreams’, as well as the philosophical thought and Yoga practices. Dr Yu also prepared videos and radio recordings in order for the audience to get a deeper understanding and feel for Yoga and the culture surrounding it. In this fascinating lecture, the audience experienced a fantastic journey and learnt more about Yoga.

During the Question and Answer session at the end of the lecture, members of the audience actively proposed their opinions and put forward questions on Yoga. Dr Yu patiently answered them and shared her individual experience and feelings. The lecture provided for a strong communications and interactions between Dr Yu and the audience.
