Creative films awarded in festival at UIC

The 4th 24 Frames-Creative Media Festival, held by UIC, gathered filmmakers from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan on 4 May. A total of 282 film works from more than 70 universities participated in this festival.

The festival announced nine awards at the opening ceremony on the afternoon of the first day. Du Jinsui and Zhang Gaojing from the Beijing Film Academy won the Best Drama Film Award and the Best Director Award respectively. The Best Production Award was given to UIC Cinema and Television (CTV) student, Lou Xindi, and the Best Creativity Award was captured by another UIC student, Wang Hanyi. Huang Hang from Hong Kong Baptist University seized the Golden Award of Films from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Other categories including animation were also awarded.

Four renowned filmmakers were invited to be members of the review committee: Director You-Ning Lee from Taiwan, Hong Kong senior director and screenwriter Leung Chun Samson Chiu, National First Class Photographer Wang Tianlin, as well as senior producer Yao Bing. They not only gave prize winners instructions on impromptu creation, but also shared their own perceptions themed “My Film Career” and “The Development of Film Industry in China”.

Directors' salon with CTV students

The 4th Creative Media Festivial was given the theme of “Original Intention”. This comes from the origins of films, dating back to the original intention of the film industry, which expresses the expectation of endless succession of the industry.

UIC CTV programme won appraise from the famous director You-Ning Lee. He said: “It is so impressive that UIC students can produce such high-quality films. The name 24 Frames refers to the past when a film could be used to take 24 photos per second. This implies inheritance to film culture.”
