UIC graduates in 2016 and their parents attended the 57th Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) Commencement on 12 November to receive their bachelor’s degrees. These happy and grateful faces have already received their graduation certificates from UIC in June, where they had spent four years studying in a liberal arts environment. Five months after they’ve left the college, what are they doing now?

Since its establishment, UIC has embraced national and international cultures and resources to educate students from different regions. A total of 1140 students have been awarded the HKBU Bachelor’s Degree this year. About 60% of them continue their further study in universities around the world, while the rest of them serve in different professions. A hundred students were qualified for a first class honours degree certificate, 39% more than last year. In addition, 20 students received the Scholastic Award.
Lian Luo, an International Journalism graduate, flew back specially for the Commencement from Dubai. She is currently an air stewardess of Emirate Airlines. She said she was thankful to UIC for enabling her to speak fluent English and bringing incomparable possibilities. She was glad to see her fellows again with whom she cherished the friendship.

Statistics graduate Wen Yingxin has received an offer from the Australian National University. She mentioned she enjoyed the volunteer services that she participated in during her time at UIC, from which she learned to be empathetic and inclusive. During the summer and winter vacations, she also joined internship programmes and travelled a lot, making her university life more diverse.

Nelson Chow obtained a First Class Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He is now working for Ernst & Young as an accountant in his home city, Hong Kong. Nelson mentioned he had many meaningful experiences at UIC, including winning the second prize in a dubbing competition. He expressed his gratitude to UIC for its liberal arts education, in which he was able to learn various skills as well as being exposed to both traditional Chinese arts and international cultures.
