Marking the passing of its decade, UIC revives the memories of this adventure in China’s higher education reform in a compilation of historical photographs.

This Chinese-English pictorial album is entitled “Ten Years a Liberal Arts College: A Photographic Journey of UIC 2005-2015”. It was published by the Media and Public Relations Office and distributed to its first readers on the Homecoming Day on 17 October.

The album collects 292 selected photos of events, people and others closely pertaining to the college over the past ten years. These photos fall into 11 different categories according to calendar years. Each year/category is built up around a specific topic.

Each category starts with introductory words describing an important progress, and is followed by 20 to 30 photos with captions. Occasionally a quotation from a student who enrolled in the very year the photo was taken is included to articulate his or her thoughts on the message the picture represents. Quotations come from students from a variety of programmes in the three divisions.

Readers can also get a quick glimpse of important moments in the history of UIC as there is a list of milestones in the college’s development included in the beginning of the pictorial book. Basic facts and figures about students, staff and programmes are provided near the end of this bilingual album. Several stunning scenery pictures of the current campus, the New Cultural Village and the architectural rendering of the new campus conclude it.

All this information combined is expected to help viewers clearly understand the journey of UIC as the first liberal arts college in China has undertaken, in the hope of evoking the stakeholders’ lingering reminiscences and inspiring them by its experience and achievements.
