The UIC Orchestra is invited to perform in Poland by the Polish Cultural Exchange Foundation Chopin (Polska Fundacja Wymiany Kulturowej Chopin).

The orchestra will perform three concerts in Poznań, Opole and Kraków from 27 to 29 April, in honour of the 65th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Poland and China.

The UIC Orchestra is the first amateur orchestra to be invited to Poland in the last 30 years, and among all the only orchestra comprising university students in the musical communication.

Before the trip, Prof Zhang Guangming, President of the Polish Cultural Exchange Foundation Chopin and Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Academy of Music in Kraków (Akademia Muzyczna w Krakowie), visited UIC and guided the orchestra during a one-month rehearsal period together with Ms Sandra Lau, Instructor of the UIC Orchestra.

At a luncheon held by UIC’s General Education Office on 17 March, Prof Zhang heaped praise on UIC’s students. “They are innovative, energetic and hardworking. I am looking forward to their performance in Poland and how they will convey their passion for music to the Polish audience,” he said.

He added, “UIC’s education mode is similar to that of some European countries. I would appreciate an opportunity to come here again and help the students.”

UIC Vice President Prof Zhang Cong extended his gratitude to Prof Zhang Guangming and encouraged students of the orchestra to present a perfect performance.
