Students savoured the aesthetic designs of name cards, postcards and bookmarks at the Graphic Design Contest in the 3nd Inter-hall Talent Competition. Awards were given among all 46 entries on 13 November.

The Global Education Hall (GEH) overall ranked first for the points it received for its residents’ works. Liao Ziliang and Jia Guorong - both from the GEH - and Lou Xindi from the Excellent Education Hall won the individual first prizes for the design of a name card, a postcard and a bookmark respectively.

All participants conveyed their feelings about the theme “UIC life” in their designs. Some used the library panorama as a background; others designed a special UIC logo.

Yao Shun won the second prize with his postcard. Its design was connected to Year One students’ life in the Innovative Education Hall: a school bus shuttling, and the warming words “Every day is a new and happy day!”

Judge of the competition Ms Dong Jia, Coordinator of Arts & Culture Development Centre at Whole Person Education Office, said, “The competition is better than those in the past. More and more students are interested in this kind of activity. Even though they are not very professional, they really did a good job!”

“We may hold some art appreciation lectures for students to give tips on image composition and aesthetics,” she added.

The Inter-hall Talent Competition consists of four contests: shuttlecock football and graphic design this semester; crowd cheering and doodling next semester.

“Through the competition, residents of one hall learn to work together and at the same time they improve communication with (members of) other halls,” said Mr Li Junyang, Associate Director of Student Affairs Office.
