Four modules will be taught at UIC in the first six months, and then students will be transferred to SBU to complete the remaining six modules for the next 12 months. Stony Brook has been enrolling overseas students in Taiwan for a decade, as well as in Singapore and Korea. UIC is the first university in mainland China to collaborate with SBU and there are 30-50 quotas available.

DBM’s dean Stella Cho said the agreement was made after long considerations and discussion. Stony Brook University is one of the top institutions in America and we hope to increase further collaboration between SBU and UIC, Prof. Cho added.

Considering that all courses at UIC are taught in English, and it has a strict academic scale of Grade Point Average (GPA) system, there will be no TOEFL, IELTS and GRE/GMAT scores required for students with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above. Meanwhile, UIC students with an overall GPA of fewer than 3.0 could be arranged for initial interviews by SBU.

Stony Brook University is a member of the Association of American Universities and an internationally recognized research university. It is ranked 2nd in the US public national universities and 78th in the World University Ranking 2010 by Times Higher Education. Noble Prize winner in Physics Professor Chen Ning Yang had been lecturing at Stony Brook since 1970s until retirement.
