The briefing for the 2011 National Natural Science Foundation Project Application was held on 17th January by the Research Office. The Academic Registrar/ Director of Research Office Prof. Zhang Genfa gave a lecture on the meeting. The participants included Dean of Division of Science and Technology - Prof. Stephen Chung, Dean of Division of Business and Management - Prof. Stella Cho, Acting Dean of Division of Humanities and Social Science - Prof. Samuel Hui, Coordinator of Statistics Programme - Prof. Fang Kaitai and some other teachers from Academic Divisions and Centers. This was the first time that UIC holding the briefing for the governmental foundations application, which would help the teachers to understand the governmental foundations and better prepared for the application.

Prof. Zhang Genfa detailedly introduced the conditions for application, some key points, budgeting, project duration, and other related information of the National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Guangdong Nature Science Foundation. Prof. Zhang encouraged our junior faculty to apply for the Youth Fund which is one kind of NSFC foundation.
Dr. Su Weifeng and Dr. Peng Xiaoling, who had successfully gained the supports from NSFC, shared their experience in applying. The participants had an extensive discussion on some crucial matters such as subject selection, justification for the project, content and scheme of research, feasibility of the project, and so on.

Briefing for 2011 National Natural Science Foundation Project Application

Regarding to the Guangdong Nature and Science Foundation, it is understood that the foundation aims at supporting basic research study in domains of natural science to promote the progress and development of science and technology, and to cultivate more young talents.
The schedule for the project application is as following:
1.The academic units preliminarily assess the research proposal;
2.The applicants submit the application forms with academic units' comments to Research Office (by 20th February);
3.The Panel evaluates the projects and gives comment; the Research Office send the feedback to the relevant applicants and academic units (by 28th February);
4.The applicants send the final application forms to Research Office: 6th March - 10th March, 2011.
