Published on 29 September 2010

According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings released recently, Hong Kong Baptist University ranked 111, which was 196 places higher than the result issued by the same institution last year.

Prof. Albert Chan, President of HK Baptist University said that the new ranking system gave more emphasis to the average contribution of teaching staff, instead of the total quantity, which was more fare to small scale colleges. Prof. Chan also said that HKBU would continue to improve with the Whole Person Education approach.

There were other changes in the ranking criteria too: reputation and history of a university was regarded less, more emphasis was put on the current research and teaching outcomes.

University of Harvard topped the list, and four Hong Kong universities made it into the top 200.
