UIC Summer Programme HKBU 2009

The 1.5-month "UIC Summer Programme HKBU 2009" was kicked off by a welcoming lunch on 3 July 2009 on HKBU campus.  Altogether 359 students from Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) were enrolled in one, two or three courses among twenty courses offered by HKBU departments, i.e. Principles of Accounting I, The World of Business, Business Communications, Organizational Behavior, Strategic Management, Banking and Credit, Human Resources Management, Environmental Biotechnology, Information Management Technology, Television and Hong Kong Society, Television Studio Production, Chinese News Writing & Reporting, International News, Intercultural Communication, Media Planning, Introduction to Political Economy, Critical Thinking, Applied Ethics, Invitation to Sociology, Social Work in Contemporary Society.

"On behalf of HKBU, I am very happy to give my warmest welcome to this group of students, the third cohort of the annual summer programme at HKBU.  As the President of UIC, I wish all UIC students a fruitful experience studying and living on the HKBU campus," said Prof C F Ng, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU and Founding President of UIC, when giving his welcome remarks at the lunch.  Other guests from HKBU attending the lunch included Prof. Franklin Luk, Vice- President (Academic), Prof. Frank Fu, Associate Vice-President & Dean of Social Sciences Faculty, Prof. Rick Wong, Dean of Faculty of Science, Prof. Stephen Cheung, Dr Simon Wong, Dean of Continuing Education, Dean of School of Business, Dr. Louis Au Yeung, Associate Dean of School of Continuing Education, Dr. Tong Chong Sze, Academic Registrar, heads of academic departments, directors or their representatives of various administrative offices.  Some teachers teaching the summer programme were also able to meet the students at the lunch. 

Prof Edmund Kwok, Executive Vice-President of UIC thanked deeply the HKBU academic departments and administrative units such as the Academic Registry, Finance Office, Estates Office, ITSC, Library, Student Housing Section, etc. for making this summer programme possible.  UIC student representative Wang Hao, who participated in the HKBU summer programme for the second time, expressed his sincere gratitude to UIC for giving the opportunity to study in HK and to HKBU for providing excellent living and studying conditions to all UIC students.  UIC colleagues such as Prof S Y Zee, Vice-President (Academic) & Dean of Science and Technology, Dr. Wendy Chan, Associate Vice President & Director of Office of Admission, Prof. Stella Cho, Dean of Business and Management, Prof. Vincent Kwan, Chief of Hong Kong and Macau Affairs, Dr. Ricky Hou, Deputy Registrar & Associate Dean of Division of Science and Technology, programme coordinators, colleagues from academic registry, student affairs, UIC HK Office, 11 hall tutors were also present at the lunch. 

The summer programme consists of 2 terms.  The first term starts from 6 July and will end on 25 July, while the second term starts from 27 July and ends on 15 August.  Classes are conducted from Monday to Friday and a series of social and cultural activities will be arranged on Wednesday afternoons and over the weekends. 

The "UIC Summer Programme HKBU 2009" is one of the many summer courses organised for UIC students.  In July over 180 UIC students and 13 UIC faculty members will depart for Summer Off-Campus programmes in the United States, Canada, France, New Zealand, South Korea, Cambodia and Thailand.
