Director Ren Qiushi said they are striving to build the Zhuhai High-Tech Zone into a new international center for technological innovation. He hoped that after this visit, the two parties may establish a closer cooperative relationship, and make the best use of the research resources in Zhuahi and Hong Kong. Prof. Ng appreciated the scientific innovational achievements and the creative measures made by the High-Tech Zone. He said the purpose of this visit was to learn about the business environment of the zone and the development of the high-tech industry in Zhuhai, as well as to seek cooperation opportunities. HKBU and UIC may join hands to make the best use of their scientific research resources and human resources, and cooperate with the Zhuhai High-Tech Zone in many fields, including software, Chinese medicine, luminescent materials, etc.
In the symposium that follows, cooperation possibilities emerged in fields such as Chinese medicine and software developing. For instance, UIC could invite David Parnas, one of the pioneers and founders of modern computer sciences and software engineering, to join in to enhance the research and development capacity of the High-Tech Zone, and hopefully, a new platform of software talents with David Parnas at the core could be established. In the field of Chinese medicine, talents could come from the School of Chinese Medicine from HKBU and the Food Science and Technology Program and Statistics Program from UIC. They can work together to set up a domestic standard for Chinese medicine, which would promote the modernization process of the industry.
The delegation was impressed by the hardware construction and software facilities of the Zhuhai High-Tech Zone. Further discussions would be carried out soon by the two parties.
