HILLcrest High School
Hamilton
New Zealand
The SCAT CHOIR came to UIC on 23rd, September and they gave a fabulous one hour performance the following day which was a great success. A lot of students came in to listen to the concert. They also kindly donated some books to our library.
The name SCAT means to vocalize in jazz and this group of young people from Hillcrest High School Hamilton, New Zealand are true exponents of the harmonies and resonance of vocal jazz.
From the lush heartland of the Waikato region of New Zealand, this group of young people aged 14-18 really embodies the freshness and enthusiasm that is characteristic of the young people from that country. The choir was founded at the High School nearly 20 years ago and has a long tradition of touring the world from the USA to South East Asia performing Jazz and Popular music as well as a number of NZ compositions especially composed for them.
These are students who know how to make people of every age smile. They have the ‘bop-she-wow’ factor which encourages their audiences to sing along with them, everything from the songs of Billie Holliday to the Beach Boys. They are equally at home singing at large Conferences, school halls, shopping malls, concerts, promotions and rest homes.
The Choir are preparing for their audience.
