Sep 22, Beijing – About 20 Beijing parent representatives attended a seminar held at Beijing today. They had an in-depth discussion on the educational issues and the establishment of the UIC Beijing Parents’ Club with UIC Executive Vice President Prof. Kwok Siu Tong and Deputy Chief of Development Lillian Li. The seminar marked a substantial progress of the Four Points Education in the Beijing area.

Discuss at the Seminar
During the four-hour seminar, the parents brought forth many constructive suggestions. They also elected an executive committee for the Beijing Parents’ Commission, laying a solid groundwork for the future development of the parent organization in the area.
Mr. Hong Zhong was elected the Chairman of the committee. Other members included Ms. Kang Ning, Ms. Pang Kunrong, Ms. Lu Xinhong, Mr. Liu Tielin, Mr. Wang Wei, and Mr. Jiang Kaisheng. Detailed positions and responsibilities of the committee members will be announced soon. The parents will form a working group to help in building the parents’ network.
The seminar has reaped the first fruit of the Four Points Education network. With the experience gained from the establishment and operation of the Beijing Parents’ Commission and Beijing Parents’ Club, UIC can set up a more sophisticated model for the development of the Four Points Network in the whole country.
Prof. Kwok introduced the Four Points Education concept to the parents at the seminar. He emphasized that the Four Points Education network would gather the resources from the parents and further strengthen the integration and interaction between the teachers, students, families and the society. He said that by establishing a communication channel between the college and the parents, the network would further motivate the parents to participate in the construction of the college. He told the parents that in order to realize the Four Points Education concept, after more than one years’ preparation, UIC had set up a Four Points Education Office that devotes to the parent network.
Prof. Kwok also reported to the parents the achievements of the College in the past one year, e.g. UIC proved its international teaching standard by passing the constitutional appraisal of the HKBU; the Accounting Program of UIC was accredited by CPA Australia, showing international recognition to the teaching quality of UIC; the College organized various summer programs for the students, among which the Qinghai-Tibet Trip was especially meaningful. Students learnt to introspect, learnt to share, and learnt to take responsibility during the trip.
The seminar also strengthened the communication and understanding among the parents. By self-introduction and talks, the parents got familiar with each other and shared their experience and thinking in the education of their kids. They were impressed by the educational philosophy of UIC, especially the original Four Points Education concept.
The seminar owed its success to the great work of Ms. Lu Xinhong and other several parents, who had taken charge of the liaison and logistics for the seminar in their work break. Their devotion was an encouragement to the College.
