Published on 14 June 2007

A delegation from Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management (HKIFM) visited UIC on June 7, 2007. The delegation was very interested in the campus construction project and the facility management at UIC. They also exchange opinions with representatives from UIC.

According to UIC Executive Vice President Prof. Kwok Siu Tong, UIC was planning to cooperate with HKIFM to set up a facility management center and start a Hong Kong top-notch facility management training course in the hope of further enhancing the facility management on campus and fostering professionals in the field for mainland China.

At the meeting with HKIFM, Prof. Kwok introduced the uniqueness of the UIC campus construction and its current problems. Prof. Kwok said that there were several concepts in space composition: aesthetics, utility, and a reflection of the user’s ideal, which, when in UIC, is the whole person education concept. All kinds of facilities at UIC were under construction. The teaching and administration district will be finished in June and July. It will have a clear functional division in the future. There would be staff drawing room, staff thematic restaurant, staff gym room, holistic administration area, golf course for practice on the roof, student activity space, library and information center, and student activity center. The new student living center, an artistic living space, was also under construction.

The professionals of HKIFM expressed their consent on the educational concept of UIC. They also gave some suggestions on introducing the “facility management” concept into the college.

The HKIFM is a non-profit making organization formed by a group of professional people who are actively involved in the field of facility management. The main objective of the HKIFM is to promote facility management as one of the leading disciplines and professions in the management of built asset and facilities in Hong Kong. The HKIFM also aims to provide the opportunity for practitioners from different professional background to acquire a recognized professional facility management qualification.
