Many UIC students have devoted their spare time to social practice, and this past holiday is no exception.
Ning Shuyang: Learn from the best
UIC Career Development Office organised an internship project to KPMG Accounting Firm for students during the winter vacation to expand students' horizons and actively improve their social practice ability. After a written examination and interview, nine students were assigned to practice in various KPMG Guangzhou and Shenzhen Audit Department project groups. Ning Shuyang, who majors in Statistics, is the only student from the Division of Science and Technology (DST). The others are from the Accounting Programme of the Division of Business and Management (DBM).

Ning Shuyang's did audit work at KPMG. She said that during this internship, she obtained many new skills. What impressed her deeply is the attitude, team spirit and work efficiency of the outstanding seniors.
Wang Xinkun: Pitch into the practice of cultural creations
Wang Xinkun, a second-year Culture, Creativity and Management student, always wanted to develop a career in cultural and creative industries. This winter vacation, she successfully joined the cultural and creative project for college students in Shantou Industrial Design City. Under her supervisor's guidance, she planned a cultural creation experience store, which has landed in a commercial complex in Shantou.

On the first day of work, the supervisor asked everyone to come up with a proposal on the theme of cultural creation stores. The theme of “workers” proposed by Wang Xinkun was unanimously recognised. A series of engaging New Year activities were designed. The store attracted many workers that stayed for the New Year.
Before the Spring Festival, Wang Xinkun and her team members made every effort to rush to work to launch the cultural creation store. During the Spring Festival, everyone was on duty in shifts. Wang Xinkun said that in this practice, she did multiple works, including event planning and marketing copywriting, and she also personally realised the difficulty of wage earners.
Liu Shu: Internship brings a new thought
Liu Shu, a second-year Media and Communication Studies student from Gansu Province, worked as an intern in the editorial department of Reader (campus edition), which she had been longing for a long time. Her primary work was to plan and operate the Tik Tok and WeChat official account of Reader (campus edition).

Liu Shu's home is a two-hour drive from the office building, yet, she cherished the opportunity very much. She learned a lot during the internship. She stated that what impressed her most was the rigorous attitude of the professional editors. To ensure that production's error rate does not exceed 0.005%, they will repeatedly consider using words. This internship also helped her find the direction of her future development. She will continue to think about how to break the barrier between traditional and new media.
Li Zehao: Making volunteer teaching more interesting
In this winter vacation, Li Zehao, a second-year English Language and Literature Studies student, organised a team of volunteers to the Hope Primary School in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province. They donated a batch of school supplies for the students studying there and carried out a ten-day teaching programme. He and his team members taught Chinese, Math, English, Art, and other courses.

To make the English class more interesting, Li Zehao gave each child an English name, carefully made teaching aids, and arranged homework, as well as writing unique comments for each child's homework.

Li Zehao said that he hoped that he could have a positive influence on them. In the future, he will continue to offer support for students' education, hoping to pool more strength to help more children.
