President Tang Tao on industry-education cooperation at Zhuhai-Huawei conference

The Zhuhai Municipal People's Government and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. held a conference on visual intelligence at the Zhuhai International Convention and Exhibition Centre on 29 March. At the meeting, Zhuhai High-tech Zone and Huawei signed a strategic cooperation agreement. Experts, scholars, and business representatives discussed the new development of the visual intelligence industries. President of UIC and Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof Tang Tao, was invited to give a keynote speech.

In his speech, President Tang Tao talked about the artificial intelligence and visual intelligence industries, the development of talents, and how to coordinate industry and education. He explained how industries and talent development promote each other. He also pointed out that cultivating a high-level talent team and increasing the introduction of high-end talents is very important for the sustainable, high-quality development of a city and a region. In this process, the government's policies, universities' initiatives, and industry-education-research cooperation have a significant influence.

According to the agreement, Zhuhai High-tech Zone and Huawei will build a talent cultivation base for the visual intelligence industries. President Tang looks forward to the cooperation between UIC and Huawei to make new contributions to the talent training base and drive industrial upgrading and development with talent innovation.

President Tang Tao also introduced the relevant development of UIC in the field of visual intelligence. He mentioned that UIC offers intelligent vision-related programmes and courses such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Computer Science and Technology. Moreover, the Guangdong Key Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence and Multi-Model Data Processing, 3D Innovation and Development Lab and other research institutions are located in UIC. Last year, UIC Industrial-University Research Collaboration Centre was inaugurated. Since then, it has incubated more than ten enterprises in artificial intelligence, biomedicine, creative culture, scientific software, and education informatisation.

President Tang Tao revealed that UIC would cooperate with the China-Germany Artificial Intelligence Institute to build an AI industrial-university integration platform and work with the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence to establish a China-Germany AI school in UIC.
