Published on 22 June 2021

Ms Li Chengkeng, the mother of Food Science and Technology student Huang Dahao, said that Dahao enrolled at the college three years ago with a yearning for UIC. Dahao is already in his third year in a blink of an eye, actively striving for better grades. In addition, he is working hard preparing for the application for postgraduate study.

Ms Li Chengkeng sharing her thoughts

Ms Li explained that many of her colleagues' children are enrolled at UIC, and she is no stranger to UIC. She understands UIC's position in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Also, she understands that English is the medium for teaching and that UIC implements an international education model and integrates Chinese and Western liberal arts education. These concepts are all factors that attracted her and Dahao at UIC. Yet, three years have passed, and Dahao has changed so much, according to Ms Li.

According to Ms Li, after entering UIC, Dahao has become like a different person, with high learning enthusiasm and motivation. At first, she thought he hadn't studied seriously in high school, and now he has discovered his conscience eagerly to fill the vacancy. However, later she secretly observed that Dahao's classmates were very hardworking, and the learning atmosphere was robust. Ms Li is also aware that Dahao's grades have been rising year by year.

Ms Li explains that college is the golden period of learning in life. However, many students take a break after the college entrance examination because they are exhausted from learning, thus wasting precious learning time and opportunities. They explain that UIC has done an excellent job in this regard. The GPA evaluation mechanism at UIC is more scientific and adopts diversified performance evaluation methods to evaluate students' performance. If students want to get high scores, it is not enough to rely only on the mid-term tests. They have to work hard on assignments, class performance, group projects to get the ideal total score.

In the second semester of his first year at UIC, Dahao made it clear that he would study abroad after graduation to pursue a Masters and a PhD, ideally exploring and learning in his favourite professional field, according to Ms Li. To achieve his goal, Dahao checked the enrollment requirements and programme details of foreign universities. Then, he made appropriate preparations for studying abroad in an orderly manner, including enriching his resume: participating in internships and club activities, taking IELTS exams, and researching topics. As a result, Ms Li has noticed that Dahao now has a more precise plan for his future.

Ms Li explained how Dahao had improved overall coordination and team spirit. She said that UIC's group projects are fascinating. UIC encourages all group members to pull their weight and do their part while building a sense of team spirit. Students learned social skills, leadership skills, overall planning skills, and collaboration skills through group projects.

Dahao was raised in a traditional Chinese culture environment, according to Ms Li. However, UIC's international education philosophy and English teaching opened a convenient door for Dahao to understand the world. As a result, he understood and in a timely and comprehensive manner, allowing him to strengthen his ideas and beliefs.

Ms Li thanked the teachers of UIC for their selfless dedication, together with the college, which has made an ordinary child live a more remarkable life.
