Behind those glorious moments were unremitting efforts. Peilin and her team used to work late till 1 am and woke up at 4 am to film small vendors in Zhuhai suburb for a news report project in her year three. Then, she spent a week alone editing the video and polishing the report. Finally, the project had brought them the Best in Features Video Reporting and the Best in News Writing Award at the 2021 Campus News Award presented by China Daily.

Peilin showcased her enthusiasm for journalism in a personal statement for programme orientation in year one. In the following three years, she strived for her goal, focusing on theoretical and practical learning.
Peilin started her internship during the third summer break at Xinhua News Agency Guangdong Branch, and prepared her final year project as soon as her year four began. She researched Guangzhou citizens' opinions about fertility under the newly-launched two-child policy. The project went smoothly with the support of Dr Edgar Yuen, an Associate Professor in Media and Communication Studies at UIC.

According to Peilin, her academic road would not stop after the project. She said she would pursue further studies in journalism because, quoted Dr Jesse Hearns-Branaman, an Associate Professor of International Journalism at UIC: "Grade is not final."

Currently, Peilin is admitted by MSc Global Media and Communications (LSE and USC). Compared to her first-year life at UIC, she had become more confident as the College encouraged students to communicate with their teachers. She also mentioned that it would be wise to seek external advice when applying for master's programmes for UIC's teachers would gladly share their insights, from which she benefited greatly.
