Colleagues and students,
As we say goodbye to 2023, I wish to send my warmest New Year greetings to you all.
In the past year, after the long pandemic, we faced the challenges with creativity and energy. We are also facing up to the big changes that ChatGPT brings. Last year, UIC celebrates its 18th birthday, and we have much to celebrate.
First, UIC has won approval for establishing two post-doctoral research stations, giving us a complete higher education system.
In teaching, we have attracted tip-top scientists and scholars to join us, among them winners of national awards.
Our students, too, have performed exceptionally well in national and regional contests. Our graduates are eagerly accepted by world-leading universities and into major corporations. Our "study-abroad" rate ranks third in the nation, and our circle of institutional collaborators is getting bigger than ever.
As UIC grows in reputation, it is also growing in size. Students have moved into our splendid Second Phase dormitory. At 18 years old, with over 9000 students, UIC is totally unrecognizable from its humble beginning when we operated from a tiny campus with only dozens of students. Our combined new campus is now the pride of Zhuhai.
For our progress, I want to thank our staff for their dedication and contributions. Together, we are educating a new generation of socially aware global citizens.
As the New Year approaches, may I wish you all health and happiness, and the good things that life brings.
Sincerely,
Tang Tao
