"During the 13th Five-year period, Zhuhai will vigorously develop the coastal sports and leisure industry. In five years, the 10-minute fitness circle will be established, and people could reach the greenways within 15-minute walk. It's expected that by 2020, the sports industry will account for 1.5 percent of the city's GDP." Thus were the research results recently announced by the Zhuhai Culture Sports and Tourism Bureau.
According to the research results, sports venues are expected to cover all of Zhuhai's communities within the next five years. All the public sports facilities and 70 percent of school sports venues will be open to the public.
"Fitness activities should be included in people's daily lives and become one of the basic necessities of life. The sports activities and competitions in Zhuhai must be standardized and branded, and the citizens of Zhuhai should boast a higher level of health than those in other cities," stressed Shi Lei, the research project leader.
Zhuhai plans to build over 300 football fields and 50 football schools for youth, and 50 percent of students can regularly participate in football activities.
In addition, Zhuhai plans to train athletes to win gold medals in international games. Three 5A coastal leisure sports tourism parks have been planned.
It's worth mentioning that the research results were drafted by experts from United International College jointly founded by Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University.
