United International College, which is usually shortened to UIC, is a university that was co-founded by Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University making it part of a higher education cooperation between Mainland China and Hong Kong. This liberal arts university was only founded in 2005; however it implements a variety of concepts for high educational learning that are not usually found in regular Chinese universities. The name of one of the concepts is Four-Point Education, which is a unique and innovative theory with students being the center of the model, followed by the teachers, the family and finally the country, which include both the government and enterprises. Making use of the interrelationship between these four points, it has been designed to create the best possible resources for grooming students’ coordination with both the academic divisions and other offices. The visions at UIC’s Four-Point Education Office is to share the common vision with other academic divisions of emphasizing students’ career training and seeking more internship and job opportunities for students with the aim of providing a smooth transition without any difficulties after they have graduated.

The Four-Point Education Coordination Office at BNU-HKBU United International College is composed into sections. They include the Student Career Section, the Parent Affairs Section, the Alumni Section, the Donation and Scholarship Section and the High Table Dinner Section.

The Four-Point Education Coordination Office also provided internship opportunities for students on both summer and winter holidays to work in renowned local and international enterprises. Also it provides an international internship through the Metropolitan Attachment Program (MAP) for different overseas destinations as a way to broaden students’ international exposure. Plus it also hosts the UIC International Postgraduate Education Fair where they invite about 20 to 30 universities from different parts of the world so that UIC students and parents can inquire directly.

UIC's four-point model of education

Parents in China play a major role in their child’s education so the UIC Parents Association is a network of parents and families with UIC who are involved in developing student success and dedicated to furthering the mission of the university. The Parents Association was established to serve the parents and guardians of UIC students by keeping parents informed and involved in their student’s college experience. UIC recognizes that parents play a vital role in their student’s success. The Parent Affairs Section of Four-Point Education Coordination Office will support with service to parents association. When a parent joins the Association, they are not only supporting the student, but also supporting the College. The idea is that the more informed the parents is, the better UIC can work together to help our students achieve their goals.

The Alumni Affairs Section is focused on bringing different United International College alumni together via a variety of activities, including oversea further studies experience sharing and Career Sharing. This is ideal for keeping a tight bond between the alumni and UIC. At the same time, the university can make good use of the wide network of alumni overseas or those in Hong Kong and Macau for job opportunities for students at UIC. It also helps set the foundation for creating a platform for students to develop their own business venture after their graduation.

UIC has also implemented the High Table Dinner, which blends Western and Oriental learning in addition to philosophy and inaugurating the students to become adult members of society with a broad vision and groomed with whole person virtues opening up academic discussions as well as gaining knowledge from them. UIC believes that the High Table Dinner helps to build bridges for more academic discussions.

Also part of the Four-Point Education model is the fundraising task, which is one of the major tasks of FPECO (Four-Point Education Coordination Office). The collected donations are beneficial tothe continuing development of UIC. UIC has proactively created a development fund for future development and acts like an extra engine of growth.
