UIC students achieved remarkable success at the 11th Campus News Awards (CNA) hosted by China Daily Hong Kong. A total of 18 students received 13 awards, including 10 English awards and 3 Chinese awards.

The award-winning students said that attending the competition sharpened their news sensitivity and strengthened their skills in news reporting, such as topic selection and information collection. Meanwhile, they also learned to turn attention to the marginalised people, voicing for the disadvantaged groups and taking social responsibility.
This year's competition set 26 awards categories, including English-language and Chinese-language news reporting, feature writing, business news reporting, arts and culture news reporting, tech news reporting, news video reporting, new media reporting, and news photography.

According to China Daily, this year, CNA received a record-breaking amount of nearly 1000 entries from over 3,000 participants from 62 universities of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and the number of institutions was also the highest in history.

CNA was launched in 2012 as an annual event to promote student-run campus news and media outlets. It aims to improve the news writing and media-production skills of students, and provide a platform to communicate and exchange ideas with peers from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
