UIC students stood out in the 2022 China Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modelling (CUMCM), winning multiple national and provincial prizes. Among them, two teams were awarded both the national Second Prize and Guangdong provincial First Prize, respectively.
These winning teams were formed separately by the fourth-year students from the Statistics Programme (STAT), Liu Shuaijun, Hu Xinwen, Wu Ruibing; and the third-year students from Financial Mathematics (FM), Liu Rui, Zhang Zhaofeng and Wang Siyuan.

UIC dispatched 102 teams to the contest this year, competing with more than 54,000 teams from 1606 institutions in China, the UK, Malaysia and other countries.
To better prepare students for the contest, UIC's Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) arranged training and lectures during summer holidays and covered modelling knowledge in daily teaching.
As a result, the teams from UIC were awarded 74 awards, including two national Second Prizes, three provincial First Prizes, ten provincial Second Prizes, 18 provincial Third Prizes, and 41 excellent prizes.

The CUMCM is an annual contest for undergraduates worldwide, having been organised by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIAM) since 1992. It aims to improve students' understanding of mathematics, especially mathematical modelling and software, enhance their motivation for studying mathematics, and cultivate their creativity and overall ability.
