UIC students awarded degrees at 63rd HKBU Commencement

The UIC Session of Hong Kong Baptist University's 63rd Commencement was held on 21 November 2022, presided over by Prof Rick WK Wong, Interim Provost of HKBU. Some UIC graduates who were in Hong Kong attended the ceremony.

A total of 1,641 UIC students from the Class of 2022 were awarded a Bachelor's degree from HKBU, with 37 of them receiving the Scholastic Awards and 506 receiving the First Class Honours. In addition, 543 postgraduates were awarded HKBU's Master's and Doctoral degrees, nine of whom were awarded Scholastic Awards, and 107 graduated with distinction.

Dr Albert Chau, HKBU Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), addressed the graduates. He praised their bravery and resilience when facing unexpected obstacles during the COVID-19 pandemic, and congratulated them on their successful graduation. He hoped they could stay open-minded and care for all humankind and the world, solving global challenges professionally and continuously adapting to changes with learning abilities.

Zhang Yingfang, a fresh graduate from the Bachelor of Data Science programme, delivered a valedictorian speech. Zhang said that spending four years at UIC has equipped her with enough skills, knowledge and confidence to conquer the unknown challenges in the future, and she expressed gratitude towards her beloved family, teachers and friends.

By this November, the Class of 2022 undergraduates who chose to pursue further studies have gained admission to prestigious universities such as the University Of Cambridge, Imperial College London, University College London, ETH Zurich, National University of Singapore, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Edinburgh, Nanyang Technological University, Cornell University, the University of Hong Kong, Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, New York University, the University of Sydney and other elite universities in the world. In addition, students who chose to work have been employed by the Big Four accounting firms, China Construction Bank, Southern Power Grid, China Electronic Technology Group Corporation (CETC), Walmart, Bilibili and other well-known enterprises.
