Prof Tang Tao delivers a speech on university life

Prof Tang pointed out the differences between high school and university for the students and advised students to have balanced academic learning among subjects, cultivate the ability of interdisciplinary development, and improve soft skills, including teamwork, independent and critical thinking.

Prof Tang added that leisure life would also change significantly, for one would have to get along with students of different backgrounds. Therefore, it was vital for one to learn to understand, care about and cooperate with others, keeping being open-minded and tolerant. He also emphasised that one should balance one's time and be responsible for one's life at UIC.

UIC's educational philosophy was introduced to the students by Prof Tang. He said that as the first modern college in China that upholds a liberal arts education, UIC would continue to provide high-quality education and cultivate all-rounded students to be whole-person. It would cling to the combination of internalisation and traditional cultural practices in China, nurturing students in the English-teaching environment.
